Local Advocacy

Strengthening Our Community

VéloCity Cycling supports a variety of community organizations that are dedicated to helping our youth succeed, supporting our veterans, and promoting a healthy lifestyle. We also promote many bike rides that support these and other worthy causes. A few of these events are competitive races, but most are recreational rides open to cyclists of all skill levels.

Organizations We Support

Waukesha S.T.E.M. Academy logo

Waukesha S.T.E.M. Academy

As a Specialized Foundation Riding for Focus retail champion, we proudly support Waukesha’s STEM Academy-Saratoga Middle School. Riding for Focus seeks to create a better learning environment for children with ADHD by incorporating cycling into their curriculum. The Specialized Foundation provided the bikes for this initiative, while the VéloCity staff built the bikes and provides ongoing maintenance.

The Waukesha STEM Academy-Saratoga is a K-8 Charter School that inspires over 800 students to become active participants in learning. The school is designed around a STEM curriculum—science, technology, engineering, and math—and learning is collaborative and project-based.

Project Echelon logo

Project Echelon

The Heart Behind the Project. Helping veterans and their families re-engage through physical activity and self-discovery. While performing at an elite level is our focus, our motivation is to use our talents to shine a positive light on the veteran community. The reality is that cycling is much more than a sport, it is a form of therapy. In 2015, an average of 22 veterans committed suicide every day. A majority of these veterans were victims of the inability to access long-term, financially sustainable therapy for issues related to depression, PTSD, and traumatic brain injuries. As a result, many turn to substance abuse and/or self-harm.

Recent research has shown that cycling is one of the most effective, accessible, and sustainable forms of therapy for veterans due to its low impact, aerobic, and team-based nature. Researchers have also found that cycling is viewed as one of the most socially acceptable forms of therapy amongst veterans.

Top Ranked Amateur Team on PRT Circuit in 2018!

The cycling team serves as the public face of Project Echelon, promoting their cause to cycling enthusiasts and fans as they train, race and interact with communities in SE Wisconsin, the Midwest, and across the country. Furthermore, the team has a direct connection to the veterans that Project Echelon supports through a variety of programs. They also use their platform to continue to grow their youth mentorship program, through which their “seasoned riders” mentor under-23 riders in areas of goal setting, perseverance, professionalism, and networking, and teach young riders the value and importance of giving back to the community, especially our veterans.
